lyrics

The Juggler

The kids came shouting and dancing through the street
Hollering the juggler was coming to town
They’d seen him from the hill pushing his wagon
Whipping his mule, wife and only child

He was swift with cards and balls
He could burn the night sky with a mouthful of fire
He’d read the future with the minor arcana
He’d steal your money while listening to his other worldly voice

Some say he’s an artist
Some say he’s a wizard
He’s here and he’s not

His wife and only child always travelled with him
From the surrounding darkness they’d throw things
His performance was like a whirling Sufi dervish
In its midst the juggler as the eye of the hurricane

He was the premonition of what was to come
His performance inspired by the murder of Elza
He’d throws nails into the air and they’d disappear
He’d read the truth in his cards but his mouth would refuse any word

Truth drew nearer every night he played cards, balls and fire
The priest getting strange messages through the wire
Things were set in motion that could not be stopped
The Judge was coming, coming to town, you can feel him a-coming

Some say he’s an artist
Some say he’s a wizard
He’s here and he’s not
